Pedal stroke power

Increase Power in Your Pedal Stroke

If you increase power in your pedal stroke, you’ll become a much more efficient rider. A more powerful pedal stroke means you’ll not only pedal faster, but you’ll also be less fatigued!

There are several ways to increase power in your pedal stroke, here are a few suggestions:

  1. Improve your technique: You can increase your power by pedalling more efficiently. This means pedalling in smooth circles, rather than just pushing down on the pedals. Try to apply force throughout the entire pedal stroke, including the upstroke.
  2. Increase your cadence: A faster cadence can help you generate more power by increasing the speed at which you’re pedalling. However, it’s important to find the right balance between speed and power output.
  3. Train your muscles: Incorporate strength training exercises, such as squats, lunges, and leg presses, into your workout routine to build up the muscles you use when pedaling.
  4. Focus on interval training: High-intensity interval training (HIIT) can help improve your power output by pushing your muscles to work harder in short bursts. This type of training involves alternating short periods of high-intensity work with rest periods.
  5. Consider your bike fit: A proper bike fit can help you generate more power by maximizing your efficiency and minimizing wasted energy. Make sure your saddle height, saddle position, and handlebar position are all adjusted correctly for your body.
